2 July 1851

The news had spread fast, by then people from all over the world had fled to Victoria, greedy for gold. I had just heard the news and decided to make some money. I am an orphan, I've been living with a nice old lady called Zelda, she's 69 and has been looking after me for more than twenty years now. When I told her I w -anted to look for gold she said she'd be happy for me to get some money but i could see the sadness in her eye's. I took a pick, a spade, a tent, my trusty revolver and Bessy the horse.

3 July 1851

I waved goodbye to Zelda and set off on my journey. We lived in Queensland so it was probably going to take a day or so to get to Clunes. We stopped in a nice open area for a rest, I was going to kill a kangaroo with my revolver but when I realized I only had five ammo left, I decided to save it up and picked some wild berries instead. They were extremely sour.

7 July 1851

Finally I arrived at Clunes! The place is bustling with people either panning for gold or mining it. I decided to pitch up my tent in a nice shady area. I dug for a few hours today my hands are aching, I cannot even hold my pen properly. I called it a day when the sun started descending. I shall start work tomorrow at dawn.

8 July 1851

As I was working, I heard a group of miners murmuring something about gold found in Buninyong or something like that. I wsn't sure if it was true but had been a drop of people coming to Clune now, I'm not really sure so I will be staying at Clunes for now, I'm not really sure. I've sfound some specks of gold but I only had enough just to buy food for a week. I am poor and cannot afford clean water since I also need to buy food rations for Bessy. I boil water from the creek but only drink a little each day since I do not want to get sick. I just hope I strike rich on the goldfields.

9 July 1851

It was true! Nearly everyone has escaped to the goldfields of Buninyong. I had decided to travel to Buninyong as for i have heard many people finding their fortunes on those gold fields, I have packed all my belongings and food in my rucksack. I have decided to set off tomorrow morning after I have had a jolly good sleep.

11 July 1851

Buninyong sure is a busy place and I'll be sure to keep constant entries in my diary even though I need to work extra hard on the gold fields, everyday more and more people are coming which makes it especially difficult to find a mining area. I've made some friends with a few China men that can speak english, their technique to find gold is especially interesting, even though it uses a vast amount of water they strike rich very easily, I'm not going to use the technique because i need my water supplies since I'm low in stock. It's nearly 11pm, and I need my energy for tomorrow.

19 January 1853

Finally! I have found my diary, it all started a year ago. I was too busy to write in my diary, while I was minin in a shaft-since the government introduced a miners licence to be allowed to mine-some officers pulled up infront of my shaft and asked to see my miners licence since I didn't have one the oficers destroyed my shaft along with all my belongings except for my revolver which was in my pocket. The officers charged me all my money and since then it has took me ages to unravel my dairy once again so I shall start keeping constant entries from today on.

22 January 1853

The gold fields are a harsh place to live on, There is not much food and it is extremely rare to find clean water, I met this exceptionally well person called Jerahmya Johnsonn, he has been helping me on the gold fields, giving me shelter, food and water, he is a crack of a gunner and could shoot someone with a pistol 3 miles away! I still haven't found my fortune yet, but when I have I shall return home and Zelda and I shall live a happy life together.

23 January 1853

Today's the day, my birthday! Jerahmya bought me a rifle, for defensive systems only, I won't use it for attacking... Anyway, since I have got that rifle, Jerry has no more money, what a nice fellow! we have decided to travel to Ararat sice he thinks that not so much people have gone there so we might strike rich easier.

24 January 1853

I'm beginning to fell homesick, I wonder what Zelda is up to, probably still sleeping, she's not really the sporty type. Anyway Jerahmya was right, we have found a fortune, well at least enough to keep us full on our rations for six days or so, maybe even ten if we save up.

27 January 1853

We are moving yet again
